Embark on a thrilling safariadventure at Kaudulla National Park from Habarana, a serene village known for its lush greenery and proximity to wildlife reserves. The journey begins with a pass through Habarana, offering a glimpse into the island’s rich biodiversity.
The safari takes you on a short game drive through Kaudulla’s diverse landscapes in a rugged 4WD vehicle. Established in 2002, the park spans 6,900 hectares and forms the Kaudulla-Minneriya Jungle corridor. It features dry evergreen forests, abandoned cultivation lands, and grasslands. The centerpiece of the park is the Kaudulla Tank, an ancient water reservoir built by King Mahasena in the 3rd century AD, which attracts a variety of wildlife.
Kaudulla is renowned for its elephant sightings, particularly towards the end of the dry season in September when herds gather around the tank. You can also spot over 160 species of birds, 24 species of mammals, 25 species of reptiles, and 26 species of fish.
